CPS welcomed assistant professor Alexandru Cuc, Ph.D. to the faculty this fall.
Cuc earned his doctorate in cognitive psychology and masters in psychology from New School University in New York. His undergraduate degree was in psychology from Babes-Bolyai University in Romania. Prior to moving to the Center for Psychological Studies (CPS), he served as assistant professor at the Farquhar College’s behavioral sciences department at Nova Southeastern University.
Cuc’s dissertation research on memory formation in family conversations was awarded a National Science Foundation fellowship. He has co-authored several research articles in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, such as Memory and Cognition, Psychological Science, and Applied Cognitive Psychology. In 2003, he co-authored a book chapter on “The construction of collective memory” in an internationally edited book. Two years ago, Dr. Cuc received a research grant from the Jacobs Foundation in Zurich, Switzerland to study “Collective amnesia of traumatic events and its relation to narratives of national identity in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.”
Cuc will be teaching History and Systems, Cognitive/Affective Bases of Behavior, and Social Bases of Behavior this year in the doctoral program.
