CPS Welcomes Joan Cook, Ph.D. - Distinguished Alumna 2009

The Center for Psychological Studies was proud to welcome home its distinguished alumna of the year, Joan Cook, Ph.D. of Yale University, for the NSU Celebration of Excellence.

Dr. Cook is currently on the faculty of psychology and psychiatry at Yale University. She previously served as assistant professor at Columbia and the University of Pennsylvania. She has been nationally recognized for her work in trauma in geriatric populations and for her empirically validated treatments for psychological trauma. She has been a principal investigator on grants from the Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Institutes of Mental Health. She has over 36 peer reviewed publications, and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Gerontology and the Journal of Psychological Trauma. She testified before Congress on military trauma in 2004.

On Friday, January 23, Dr. Cook presented a colloquium to CPS faculty and students on her findings from clinical trials where she treated nightmares in Vietnam Veterans with PTSD.
