New Counseling Student Organization Focuses on Education, Community Service, and Professional Development

The NSU Counseling Student Organization (CSO) was chartered in Spring, 2010 by faculty and students interested in providing future counselors with professional and service opportunities related to the counseling field. The purpose of the CSO is to promote excellence, professionalism and a strong counselor identity in the counseling profession through engagement, opportunities and education across all NSU campuses.

Already the CSO has participated in the NSU Autism Walk, the Phillip Zimbardo lecture, the United Way Luncheon, and the CPS Professional Development Institute. We have also completed clothing drives for veterans and area domestic violence shelters, and hosted distinguished speakers on both Bipolar Disorder and Professional Counselor Licensure. Other recent events include a Spring student happy hour, newsletter publication, and a graduation celebration. Our future goals are to increase opportunities for attendance and involvement in professional counseling conferences and organizations, and to provide networking and educational opportunities through our newsletter and beyond.

Students and Alumni in the CPS Counseling program (including our Education Centers and Online Counseling program) are eligible to join the CSO. Look for information posted on the Counseling Student Organization module on WebCT, in the Maltz Psychology Building on the main campus, or on our Facebook page: Nova Counseling Student Organization. You may also email ps617@nova.edu for more information. We are looking forward to an excited year!
