CPS FACULTY & Staff Answer Call to Haiti

Associate Professor Stephen Campbell was the first NSU faculty to be on the ground in Haiti. Campbell participated in the Project Medishare Haiti Relief Program organized by NSU in collaboration with the University of Miami. He was the only psychologist who accompanied physicians, nurses, and other healthcare workers in this effort. He provided counseling and crisis intervention to Haitians suffering from PTSD and other major psychological problems. Dr. Campbell also worked with medical staff and other first responders experiencing depression, anxiety, and secondary trauma due to their exposure to difficult conditions.

The Center for Psychological Studies is also facilitating a group for NSU employees who lost family and friends in the recent Haitian earthquake. Associate Professor Scott Poland led the first group meeting with the assistance of Jean Menes and Stephane Louis, CPS staff. Since that time, Mr. Menes has continued to lead support sessions in Haitian Creole three times a week.
